Tackling Coursework Assignments

Completing coursework requirements, be it in the form of an assigned essay, report, dissertation, or term paper, is a significant part in a student’s academic standing. Professors can assign different types of written compositions as assignments, depending on the subject matter and the academic level of the students. Dissertations are usually required of those pursuing higher degrees, whereas essays, term papers, and reports are more common in undergraduate levels.

In completing a report as part of one’s coursework, there are a few common guidelines to be followed:
  • In choosing a topic, stay within the scope specified by the professor.
  • Generally, theoretical arguments are acceptable but practical arguments are better accepted.
  • Follow the structure specified by the professor.
  • The inclusion of graphical representations of data such as diagrams, photographs, and graphs is recommended, provided an explanation is given as well.
  • Use the appropriate fonts such as Arial, Verdana, or Times New Roman. The readability of the output may affect the professor’s opinion on the paper itself.

These are only some of the basic guidelines that are to be followed in preparing coursework assignments. For more detailed requirements, the guidelines provided by the university should be consulted.
