- Format the essay in such a way that it is easy for the reader to follow. Avoid writing a single block of sentences. If possible, separate the information into more readable and easily understandable chunks. Start the essay off with the introductory paragraph. This should provide the readers with a brief opening to the essay; the thesis statement should be included within this paragraph as well. Follow with the body of the essay – this can range from one to multiple paragraphs, depending on the author’s arguments and supporting data. Lastly, write a separate paragraph for the conclusion.
- Ensure that the essay has a flow. This is very important. Maintaining a flow throughout the entire piece ensures that the readers are able to follow and understand the thoughts and ideas presented in the essay. This may be done through providing good transition sentences in between paragraphs.
- Use a font that is easy on the eyes. The use of non-formal fonts should be avoided, especially when writing essays and other pieces for coursework tasks. The use of too small a font size should also be avoided, and of course, proper spacing and formatting should be practiced.
