Why do you need to write an essay? Well, as stated, the essay will probably be a part of your coursework, and as such, it is a requirement for passing a subject. How does one write an essay? There is no set formula on how to write an essay. The basics, however, are as follows:

• You come up with a topic.
• You determine a thesis for the entire essay.
• You do the required research.
• You put together your thoughts on the thesis.

There are no set rules or instructions on how to do this, it all depends on the student writing the essay, and of course, his application of the few guidelines and tips that can help in making an essay more presentable to the audience:

The title of this post would suggest that you, as the author of the essay, select a topic that you find interesting. Granted, doing so may help in topic selection and in writing the essay itself, however, that is not what this post is about.

This is about the meat of the essay. As students, you are sure to be writing an essay as fulfilment of certain academic requirements. Most coursework tasks such as these are delivered or assigned with a predefined topic, a statement or a question that you need to address.

Approaching an essay writing task without having a specific question to be answered can make the writing process harder. You need to have a certain focus to your essay, and that is where the central question comes in. The question allows you to hone in on what your professor requires you to include in the essay. It limits the scope of what could possibly be a very broad subject area.
